It used to be that she could lean on her mentor to give her a reader's (or listener's) digest, but by now she's become used to being without. After nearly two years, even she can manage to prop herself up in these small ways.
So Gray is dutifully paying attention to Cyrus's speech, though she isn't especially rapt... but that might be why she's able to catch a familiar voice in the crowd, one that feels so distant in her memory that it feels more dream than reality.
She turns as if whipped around on a string, mouth agape. She thinks she sees what she's looking for: a flash of blonde disarray peeking out among the heads of the audience. Poor Cyrus's very nice speech flies completely out of her head. She flows quickly through the crowd, soft touches and and careful maneuvers carrying her a short but dense distance until she comes face-to-face with Flat Escardos. ]
