[ He shrugs. ]

Like I said, world I came from didn't have magic. That's just fairytale stuff. Figured souls were the same thing — just something someone made up. I dunno why they would, but... Now that we got shards, it's pretty tough to say they ain't real.

[ He isn't bothered by it, but something more thoughtful slips into his voice at the last sentence. He'd have been fine continuing to believe souls weren't real; now that he knows they are, they're something precious to hold onto. It makes sense now.

Amos looks out at the rest of the mingle, watching Yima as she moves about — and at least to her credit, she doesn't really seem like she has much time for anyone right now. It's all cursory, the same way she was with Hazel.

And I dunno. I think Yima'd have time for kids. [ A bit of good nature slips into his voice; Yima's great! ] I don't think age matters to her — what matters is if you're her people. If you're Zenith. If you need her then, then I think she'll try. She cares; it's just kind of a busy time right now, you know?

[ Yeah, it's easy for him to say; he's obviously an adult. But the logic is simplistic — almost childlike, in its own way — and he does genuinely believe it. ]
