[Unimpressed, Red shakes her head at him again. Patience to 'decode' her is the very least she deserves from him. What she wants, however, he can't give her. He can't turn back time and undo every stupid little thing he did out of curiosity, ambition, whatever excuse he wants to use. In truth, it's the first time that she's had the opportunity to even be in his presence without the Transistor in hand. They've never simply spoken.
Of course, it's not like she could have done that back there. She doubts at the time she would have even wanted to hear any kind of explanation he might have given. And he seemed too enamoured with the sound of his own voice to think about anyone or anything else other than whatever grandiose achievements he was reaching for.
A terminal would be nice right about now, though it also wouldn't provide her an adequate means of communication. Unless there's something about these shards that she hasn't figured out yet. (There is, in fact, perhaps a potentially pleasant surprise she may come to realise in the future.)
Instead of prodding any further, she simply eyes him wary and tired. They may have to put whatever this is on hold, not that she knows where else it would even lead. Lifting her hands, it seems to be a sign of... It isn't surrender. More like begrudging resignation. It feels as though her hands are tied.
Unless you have a better idea. I don't see a lot of options.
Perhaps he can pick up on that.
But the implication is clear enough. 'Together.' Neither of them are the types willing to say it. To admit to it. But even Red knows she can't just focus on the anger that lingers in her heart. Maybe practicality would make him useful. Royce isn't a fool and perhaps in so many other situations, if things had been different, it would have been advantageous to know someone like him.
There is no denying that he is a valuable asset here.]
