Oh, I’m sure they matter quite a bit to someone.

[Namely, Demeisen would assume, whoever is in charge of this whole setup to begin with. He hasn’t received any straight answers on that front—whether it’s the Tree, or the faction leaders, or some unnamed power existing beyond the knowledge of the general rabble—but he’s not really buying that the people who stumbled their way to this world after their own universes were destroyed simply stumbled onto this idea about the oracles by themselves, or that, if they did, it’s actually true.]

Such as the majority of the local population. Even the shard-bearers I’ve met seem to lean one way or the other, in many cases.

[The ones that aren’t confused and fresh out of the dirt, he means. But he does, as Howl regards him, appear to be quite unconcerned.]

But I’ve never been in the habit of “going along” with things, in general. Unless I want to, of course. [Then he shrugs.] Still, I’m not keen to stand by and watch. The proceedings hereabouts affect us quite directly, wouldn’t you say? I’d like to know who’s behind this particular theme park of woe.
