[Solarpunk? Upzoning...?

Byleth logged those words away to research later, not bothering to hide the fact he clearly didn't understand what Matt was talking about, judging by the 'no thoughts, head empty' stare he was levelling him with. But, thankfully, Matt changed the subject to something Byleth did understand: war, and its many facets.]


That's a natural assumption to make, but wars aren't solely fought on the battlefield, with only soldiers as the participants. The citizens as well, with their productive power and morale, as well as their ability to replenish the ranks if it's a war of some time, is just as important.

In addition, the political capital of the opposing forces also serves a purpose that mere martial might can't. Truthfully, things would be far more straightforward if we all assembled in a great, open field somewhere and let the last man standing decide the war's outcome, but things are rarely that simple.

[Byleth plucked a small, roasted fish off his plate.]

Humans are... complicated like that.
