WORLD SHARD LOCATION: Fort Mason Center, at the edge of the dock behind the central building (careful, there's a werewolf occupation!)
DREAMER SHARD LOCATION: Savant Shard. Behind one of the books in a Fillmore occult shop. (Set's gonna find it!)
A BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Hey, you know the Dresden Files? Anita Blake? Generic Urban Fantasy? That's this place! There are witches, psychics, vampires, ghosts, and werewolves (but no wereswans).
However, while these phenomena appear to be public and extremely common knowledge, people are divided on whether they're a good thing! You won't see anyone casting spells in public except in a civil disobedience capacity. News coverage is skeptical to hostile. Could this be a metaphor for something????
WHAT TO DO IN THIS WORLD: Ah, Fog City. Here's some things you might consider:
Touristy stuff like cafes, museums, Fisherman's Wharf, shopping, are all available to you. There's always a chance that things familiar from our world will be a little bit more fantastical than you're used to–for example, an art exhibition of Picasso's famous Vampire Period--and since this is an AU, you don't even need to ask me if it's plausible, just roll with it. But you can still have a perfectly nice time and take in a little culture!
Alcatraz Island is well known by everyone to be haunted. There are affordable ghost-spotting boat tours, but for everyone's safety, directly approaching the island is not allowed. But that's not to say you can't do a little unauthorized exploring …
The Fillmore neighborhood appears to be the center of preternatural activity in the city. That's where you'll find most of the occult shops, and a lot of businesses with signs saying things like EVERYONE IS NORMAL and THESE BITCHES HEART WITCHES. And in one specific metaphysical shop, a certain Shard …
After a few hours, you'll either overhear or see on the news that there is a werewolf occupation of Fort Mason Center. Werewolves are tired of being treated like second class citizens, and they're protesting along with some psychics, witches, vampires, and baseline human allies! If you're cool and not actively a cop, they'll let you into the Center, where there's mutual aid being dispensed, the occasional drum-and-juggling circle, and a legitimately good protest rock concert. At the very back of the Center, on the dock out back of the middle building, you'll find the Shard of the World.
As a note for the werewolf occupation! If you want to play out scuffles with the police (or bigoted counter-protestors), you are more than welcome. Wanna call the cops or start a fight to create chaos? Go for it. It's absolutely not a requirement for engaging with the prompt, however, which is why I'm not really going into it in the bullet itself. You could easily just hang out, prove to everybody you're cool, and waltz up to the World Shard.
itt: urban fantasy metaphors that really put the b in subtle
