( at the question, the remark about the food, marc looks back at the buffet, at the spread. he's never held much of an interest in food for food's sake, either as a diner or the concept of the culinary arts (fine and fancy was very much steven's thing), but it looks good. good enough, at least, for him to say— )
I've eaten worse, ( his tone very much implies he doesn't much care either way. food is food, as long as he has enough of it, that's fine — MREs managed to run the gamut of 'fucking awful' to 'tolerable' to 'surprisingly great (when hungry enough)', and eating in the deserts of africa or the jungles of south america as a mercenary hadn't seen him with food that was much better most of the time.
fortunately, he'd had jean-paul, and the stereotype of frenchmen and their food had seemed to run true. duchamp had always managed to concoct something that was better than what marc would've been able to pull together from the same ingredients.
(or perhaps it was simply that marc was terrible at cooking.)
but as for the question— ) Briefly. It didn't really ( a vague hand wave ) seem like my scene.
