( to be fair to cassian, it is essentially what marc had said. contextually speaking, there's a lot missing — it's a lot easier to make decisions based on faith, based on something as comparatively nonsensical as the moon when it's something that's driven your actions and, crucially, sense of self in the past.
faith isn't something marc would necessarily describe himself as having in spades — he'd had a difficult relationship with religion as a child, had struggled to contextualise his perception of events with the way that his father presented them and said they should be understood; he struggled to understand why and how their G-d could be so utterly indifferent. he'd struggled to understand why his father had presented perseverance as strength when it sat alongside what marc perceived to be inaction.
and then he'd given it all up as soon as it seemed like he might die. he'd chosen a god to keep him tied to egypt when his father's god had taken them from there. and as for khonshu himself, well—
