lmaoooo i'm so glad

[ if cassian had ever been raised on faith, then those memories have been lost to him as surely as much of his early life. the andors didn't raise him on any particular religion, nor did ferrix expose him to anything that resonated with him. cassian has always been grounded in the practical, in the things he can see and touch and feel. the empire's oppression has been one of the most real, most pervasive forces in his life since he was a teenager. that is something he would call a real thing: inescapable. joining the rebellion was, in the end, only natural. if he's ever had faith in anything, it was in the justice of that cause, despite everything it had required of him.

(that cause, and one thing more: a woman circulating elsewhere at this same gathering, ferocity burning in her eyes.)

but he's balked, so far, at the idea of giving his loyalty to either faction here. this is not so clear-cut as choosing to side with a corrupt government, or against it. he'd been honest (mostly) when he said both looked the same to him.

marc's response reminds him, though, how much he's shown his hand. hadn't marc said he preferred this party over the last, nothing to do with purpose or politics? for cassian, these things are inextricably intertwined. a believer to the last, and beyond.

he makes himself laugh. ]

Sorry. [ the sound is self-conscious. he looks back to marc, shaking his head. ] Everyone saying Harmonize this, Harmonize that, [ he spreads his hands in a helpless gesture, brief. ] it's easy to forget that the parties are just parties.

[ rather than commitments. ]
