I think at least some of Springstar's thinking was influenced by the loss of the first Oracle.

I think research would be more useful. The blight is a threat to all of us. Zenith and Springstar. However... I believe some thought that it would be better to strike while there is the strength to do so and secure what supplies they can. I do not know if I agree... but that would seem to be the logic.
