There could be an anomaly which creates iridescent skin on a vampire. [I think Jonas told him this same thing in Nightfell, that's funny.] On the Frontier, they are called Nobles. They emerged from hiding after humans detonated an atomic bomb which destroyed much of the planet.

They ruled for thousands of years, undying and powerful, weak only to the sun, or a stake, or prolong decapitation. They created their own society and cities, and they advanced science far beyond human capability. They fought aliens for the dominion of the planet as well. Now they are dying out. Hunters like me are paid to kill them.
